Some of you may know that I'm in grad school to be a SLP. I'm now seeing my first clients. For a few reasons, I've had a last minute addition to my client roster. I now have a 7 year boy, who has autism. My supervisor has worked with this family for a few years now and I have a detailed plan for his language goals, so that is fine. BUT, I feel I should know more about autism than I currently do.

Because of the time crunch, I was hoping someone could point me to some resources. They don't have to be from a SLP perspective. Actually, I would like some resources aimed at parents too.

Thanks.

I would start with either one (or both, if you prefer) of these books- Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew (http://www.amazon.com/Things-Every-Child-Autism-Wishes/dp/1932565302/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347032367&sr=8-1&keywords=10+things+your+child+with+autism+wishes+y ou+knew) and Ten Things Your Student with Autism Wishes You Knew (http://www.amazon.com/Things-Your-Student-Autism-Wishes/dp/1932565361/ref=pd_sim_b_2).

Another book suggested by one of our psychologists- More than Words (http://www.beyondplay.com/ITEMS/W745.HTM).

Autism Speaks-100 Day Kit (http://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/tool-kits/100-day-kit). This is downloadable.

Thank you. This is what I need. Normally I would have more time to prepare, but I don't have that. I've got the books on my kindle and downloaded the 100 Day Kit. I don't want to make a mistake that I should have known not to do.

ETA. Autism speaks had some other tool kits that will be helpful too. I need to use visual supports and they have an informative tool kit on how to do that.
