DD is 4 1/2 and is pretty tall for her age (46"). We are selling her 12" bike at our garage sale tomorrow and want to look for a 16" bike for her. Any suggestions on brands or links to specific bikes? Thanks!!

Specialized hotrock. They are well built lightweight bikes.

DD1 and DD2 both have Trek Mystic bikes. They are heavy but work great. Is your DD already riding a 2 wheeler or does she still need training wheels? Really easy with the training wheels, but can be more challenging for new riders due to the weight. DD1 loved it while on training wheels at first, until she fell hard one day. The bike tipped to the side when she was riding on the sidewalk and rode past a driveway. She fell toward the street as she didn't lean into the driveway and my dad who was with her didn't help counter-balance.

Still, it seems like a solid bike and is reasonably priced as a used bike on Craigslist (around $75 in my area).

Great, thanks for the recs! I'll have to keep my eye on CL for that one - I think it's out of our price range new.

ETA: DD still uses training wheels. I don't think she would need to for long, but frankly her old bike was so small for her that she couldn't ride it comfortably and was just not that interested in riding it much.

I would suggest also looking for a Specialized Hotwalk, since you have a DC to pass it down to... That way she can learn to balance first, then you can move her to a 16" Hotrock. Go check with your local bike shop, try them out, and ask if they have any used bikes. Ours trades them in so they often have older models for less than half price.
