Some of you probably remember my posts last year about our nightmare of a kindy teacher who showed tv daily and marketed her home cooking classes to her students. All the while she said my DS had major issues that she just couldn't teach to.

Fast forward to this year- I requested a type of classroom/teaching style I thought would accomodate DS 1. Instead of red frowny faces coming home in his weekly notebook, there are smileys and "good jobs!."

I asked the teacher for an update just to make sure I was on top of any issues. We met yesterday - DS has some environmental anxieties, and needs some listening reminders, but is doing great at his school work. She does not think he is a problem child, she thinks he is very bright and excelling so far at academics! She offered to meet again in about 6 weeks just to track the minor issues that he is having. She was kind, professional, and intelligent.

And today, he brought home his first graded progress report - all A's!
I just wanted to share our good news since I shared our misfortunes last year! :)

That's wonderful! I'm so glad he has a teacher that works well for him.

What ever happened to that awful teacher? Weren't you meeting with people to discuss all of her major problems?

Thanks everyone! And a cool thing about her is that she chose teaching as a second career after practicing criminal and appellate law for over a decade. Mainly cool to me I guess since I am an attorney :tongue5:

I'm so happy for you! That teacher was a nightmare. Just out of curiosity is she still there teaching and cooking?

I agree with the miracles a good teacher can create. Gator has a fantastic third grade teacher this year. He is just so happy all the time and the stories he tells about her creativity in the classroom are just so interesting. I'm glad you re having a good experience too. :yay:

Thanks! She is there teaching, if you can call it that. Snarky, I know. I can't help it. A friend of my next door neighbor (who initially warned me about her) wound up with her daugher in there. I'm sure my neighbor will let me know if the cooking classes start back up now that I'm out of there. And I will promptly report it if so :D.

If you get the chance, it is definitely worth a quick note or comment to the principal about how pleased you are about the teacher because of ...(fill in the blanks).

So happy that you have one of the great ones!

That's wonderful! :) DD is in 5th grade and I agree good teachers make a world of difference. We've mostly had good teachers, but when you have a GREAT fit, your DC just thrives!
