** I want to say thank you so much for your kind responses--they brought tears to my eyes and reminded me again why I have always loved this community and still hang around ten years after coming here to learn about baby products for my first son. The fact that some of you prayed regularly for us when we've never met in person shows just how much community we can feel with others online here. We do believe that prayer works, and we thank you again for your prayers. And for those of you who weren't around then and posted your support here, I really appreciate that as well. Feeling warm fuzzies for all of you!! **

Exactly five years ago our then 1 1/2-year-old son was diagnosed with fourth-stage cancer. Some of you prayed for him back then, so I thought you might appreciate hearing an update. He has been off treatment now for 3 years and has remained free of cancer and strong physically.

When he was 2 years old, he had radiation on his brain for 10 days. The doctors warned us that the radiation can be especially damaging when administered to a child under 3 years old and that DS would definitely suffer cognitively as a result. They said that he would experience a lowered IQ and would have difficulty learning, etc.

In light of that, his doctors and teachers have been completely amazed by how well he's doing cognitively--it's truly a miracle. The problem now is actually figuring out the best way to deal with DS because he's so much more advanced academically than his first-grade classmates. (For example, today he scored above the 8th grade reading level on a literacy assessment.)

We feel so blessed to have him doing so well and thank God daily for his healing. For those of you who have been in this community long enough to remember me posting back then about DS, thank you so much for your emotional support then and prayers for him and our family.
