DS does reasonably well at unstructured turn taking. It is a result of us deliberately teaching him and now understands specific play routines. However, implicit turn taking, in conversations or sharing, he still does not do it without much prompting. I was wondering how I could use his existing turn taking skills to improve his implicit/spontaneous turn take abilities. How can I make it motivating? And maybe I don't understand it myself - why do we take turns, what is the underlying motivation for taking turns? Why is it rewarding? Thank you.

I'm in grad. school to be a SLP and I google or search pin interest for therapy activities. Here's my results from turn-taking. You might want to also search for pragmatics (social use of language).

Turn taking is crucial for pragmatics. If you don't take turns, you're not having a conversation as one person is dominating the conversation, interrupting, not listening to the other etc.

If your DC see a SLP, you could ask for ideas.
