I do not currently make bread at home, but foresee using it for mashed potatoes, cake/cupcake/cookie dough, etc..

From reading previous threads, I see that the Artisan (I think) is the lowest end one with the tilting head. It seems as though members of this board like the tilting head.

I have an Artisan (pistaschio green---love the color), I think I paid between $230 and $250 (including 8.75% sales tax) for it from Macy's in 2006. It was one of those big white sale specials that brought it down to $250-280ish (30-50% off IIRC, but I don't recall the actual retail price back then) then I had another 15% off coupon for being a Macy's card holder and then it included free shipping as well. I don't make bread either on a regular basis, but it does handle kneading the dough quite well.

My mom has the Kitchen Aid Ultra Power or Classic and she makes all of the same things that you plan to do, plus yeast rolls a couple of times a year and has never had a problem with her mixer. The head tilts on hers. I think she has had hers almost 20 yrs. . She got the Classic Plus at Kohls for my brother during a black Friday special for less than $150 a few years back. Kohls has the Artisan on sale for $350 right now, and you can save another 30% (look on retailmenot for the 30% off code, they are multi use normally) and then you can save another 15% off using the code FALLEN as long as you are a card holder. Before taxes with those discounts the Artisan would be $208.24. If you went with the Classic Plus it would be $160.64.

Thanks AnnieW625!
That sounds like a good deal. Beats the $270-$280ish I'm seeing on some Artisan colors on the Target website. I think my Mom may be buying me one for Christmas, so I'll pass along this deal. She is a Kohl's cardholder.

Last year, kohl's had really good prices for Black Friday. A friend had been shopping for almost a year and the Kohl's BF sale was by far the best price.

I have the artisan, I do LOVE it, I've used it a minimum of twice a week since getting it in May. I make cakes, frostings and mousse. (I bake a LOT of cakes) I personally would have loved a professional, BUT that's because of the volume of batter I make at a time. That Kohl's deal is AWESOME!

If you are or your mom is a Costco member check the price of the professional at Costco.
