I've been having trouble swallowing for a few months now. It happens multiple times a day. I'll be eating or even just drinking something and I get what feels like a huge lump in my throat that feels stuck and it HURTS. It lasts a few seconds and then feels like it slides down my esophogus. I've been making a point of taking small bites but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I get the sensation along with the pain even when I'm just drinking water!

What could be causing this? Do I need to have it checked out?

Not to scare you, but a few months ago my mom had the same problem. She is now being treated for cancer in her esophagus. Please get it checked out by a GI Dr.

Well crap, I just looked up side effects of my medications and one of them is "trouble swallowing". At least I figured out the culprit.

I get that too sometimes when I've been under stress. I believe its thyroid related, as I have a thyroid condition and feeling how big the thyroid is when swallowing is ones of the things my endocrinologist does to monitor it.

It could also be related to a food allergy. My 14 yo gets this.

I also get it when my reflux is flaring.
