I paid $3.93 on Saturday. A local Mobil station was $4.60 a gallon. Costco is probably about $4.35 right now. Californians also have to pay .18 cents a gallon in state gas tax so that inflates our prices a bit more too.

It's a matter of perspective, isn't it? I pay more than $6/gallon where I live.

That is true. My sister in the UK and parents in Australia pay much more per gallon (when convert liters and do the currency exchange).

Exactly true. I'm in Ontario, Canada and we pay the equivalent of about $5/gallon. In Quebec, where my parents live it's even higher.

I just filled up my Sienna yesterday and it cost me $89.

Yesterday was the first time probably this year that I filled up my tank (DH always does it). Wait for it....$4.899 per gallon. It was $72 for a full tank!!, made me sick.

My tank is low and diesel is even higher.....ugh. Where was this under $4 gas? Maybe I can walk to Brea mall from Huntington Beach??

I feel for all those driving minivans or suvs! I stopped putting plus gas in my acura sedan a long time ago (its a 10 year old car... I suppose in a few years we ll get a newer one, no more fancy brands! Lol). Its still less than 4 where i live (north NJ), prob not for long!
DH, on the other hand, has been driving the company car and it needs premium gas... He s done a lot of driving with clients, and the drivers have to pay for gas out of pocket. OUCH. Of course, they still get reimbursed later but still OUCH. Glad its back to the office now...

The problem is fundamentally that we need more refining capacity, as most refineries are ancient, and prone to shutdowns and being taken offline for repairs and other issues. But refiners margins are virtually nothing so it is not worth the capital investment and no one wants a refinery in their area's backyard (and I can think of several refineries near us) and getting permitting for one would be as easy as the Keystone XL. More refining capacity is really needed on the west coast, and that is the place it is least likely to be built.

I could only stomach putting two gallons in, and will
hit Costco tomorrow. What a mess...

I always cringe at those non-hybrid/fuel-flex/less efficient SUV's/trucks when gas goes up. My DH was at the Netherlands and stayed at his fellow scientist's collaborator's homes during the duration of his stay there. He was almost shocked to learn that they all drove in grandmother bicycles! Granted the Netherlands is a much smaller country than US, but still. Imagine the amount of gas consumption we can reduce if we have alternate means of transportation or increase incentive for car pooling. Whenever his Dutch collaborators come to US for a scientific meeting, they're always amazed at the amount of SUV's/big trucks running on the freeway. I do see much less Hummers nowadays.
