I was in line at Chipotle today and the guy in front of me did not have
the back of his neck shaven. I almost gagged. Do some men not
realize that this should be done?

I never realized that men did this regularly themselves. Is that what you are saying? That you should shave your beard in front and go all the way around to the back?

DH is not hairy at all and so he doesn't need to do this. I haven't noticed on other men either, but I will probably be looking now!

This grosses me out too. I don't think men cAn do it themselves- to me it just means they need to get their hairy selves to a barber ASAP!

DH takes a mirror every so often and shaves down the hairs that have grown back after a haircut. It does look unkempt if not maintained!

Dh does it frequently as part of his shaving routine.

Huh. I have no idea if my husband does this. I have never thought about it once. I thought it was just part of a regular haircut?

It should be!

But I shave the back of my husband's neck in between
haircuts so his neck is always clean-shaven.

Should be done with a haircut. My boys get theirs cut by a friend when she does mine. She is always commenting that it is amazing how much hair the boys have on their necks for being so young. I can blame DH for that.

I too notice necks like that; can be kind of gross.

I have never noticed this but I tend to like men with longer hair.

No, no, no... there's a BIG difference in what the OP is talking about vs. a guy with long hair. OP is saying a guy with a visible nape should have it clean and not looking like a gorilla. :D

I have never noticed this and I asked DH. Aside from his haircuts he doesn't shave the back of his neck but he isn't a very hairy person and has sandy blonde hair , so it may just not be noticeable on him.

I give DH haircuts pretty frequently, so his neck doesn't usually get too hairy in between cuts. If for some reason he is, I shave it for him.

DH asks me to shave the back of his neck, and I ask him to pluck my gray hairs. So we're even.

I've never thought about this before. However my dh is not hairy at all. I am hairier than him!

Just checked. DHs isn't hairy but he said he doesn't shave. He also said "man, you people talk about anything!" LOL!
