I am excited to hear what everyone has done on the dress up front, esp. moms of boys and tomboys.

My 2 and almost 5 year old kids love, love, love to be in costume or dress-up. I am starting to think about different costumes I can snag post-halloween to bring for a May trip - - so hot season and I don't want them to swelter in costume. I have a cape for DS and I can get a matching one for DD. DD will have her snow white halloween costume. I am looking into some "everyday princess" disney-inspired costumes from an etsy seller who makes them in a comfortable cotton. Though other than snow white DD is not particulary into dresses or princesses - - she likes bright red, wonderwoman, etc.

Other ideas? Boy outfits? Lion king inspired? What have you done?

When DS was 2, I dressed him in his Halloween costume for our meal with the princesses. It was the Edmund Pevensie costume (Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe) http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-EDMUND-Pevensie-Halloween-Costume-NARNIA-DISNEY-XS-/160346498813

When he was 5, he refused to put on a knight costume or cape.

DD wore a princess dress (http://www.meijer.com/s/little-adventures-sleeping-beauty-dress-up-costume-sizes-s-m/_/R-214657;jsessionid=13257AD14AA3CB6D393E5F7F6BE95BE4 .instance04?cagpspn=pla&cmpid=Google-G_US_Meijer_eCom_PLA_Halloween&kpid=11251 ) for the day of our supper with the princesses that trip. And I think she would happily again. But, we only did costumes for that one day/meal.

When my girls were 4, we went when it was hot. I made some pillow case dresses you can see pics of on this thread (http://windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=357105)

I ironed the Mickey heads on them (very simple). I also found some of the pre-smocked Tink fabric and made a very simple sundress, but no pics of that.

We wore Tinkerbell costumes, as those were short sleeved. The disney store frequently has princess nightgowns that can work as short sleeved dresses (some here: http://www.disneystore.com/disney/store/DSISearch?Searchstr=nightgown&storeId=10051&catalogId=10002&langId=-1&pageCmdName=productDetailPage&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=0&Nu=pProductID&Nr=pPublished%3A1&Ntk=All_Shopping&Ntt=nightgown&D=nightgown&Dr=pPublished%3A1)

As far as boys - maybe a pirate? peter pan? A mickey head on a t-shirt?

We have made many trips to Disney (live within a couple hours away), but have yet to dress the kids any any true costumes because they do not tend to be very comfortable. We go for cotton and comfort. I do really like the cotton pillowcase dresses which have worked well for DD2 (plenty on etsy).

We have also used cute Minnie hair clips from etsy:https://www.etsy.com/transaction/25140068

For DS, he wore the Mickey ear hat with his name.

DD1 has worn Minnie ear headbands.

If you do go the costume route (other than cotton), I would bring a change of clothes in case they get to hot/cumbersome.

Bright red kind of screams Minnie Mouse. :) Tinkerbell would be on the cooler side, as would Jasmine and Pocahantas. Other than pirates, I can't think of that many boy dress up clothes that are Disney themed and easily available. Oh, Woody maybe. I'm sure there are more, but not having boys I just can't think of any.

DDs aren't into wearing a costume for a whole day at the parks, but we definitely saw lots of kids who were dressed up.

We went to WDW in May. DS2 wore his Capt Hook costume on the day he and DH did the Pirates League. They had a ball! DH had the Jack Sparrow face and hat. They both got a lot of attention from passersby.

When we were there in July, I saw very few boys in costume. At the Pirate training there were a few kids in pirate gear, and one that had obviously done Pirates League that day.
We did the Akerhus dinner and I changed DS4 into his "Prince" costume for the dinner. It was the Crusader costume from Costco last year, and he loves it. We did many character meals that trip, and the dinner was the only one he actually participated with the characters. I don't know if it was the costume or the princesses that got him out of his seat. He told Snow that Cindy was his girlfriend!

Pharmjenn, that is hilarious!

Thank you everyone for these ideas. Fivi2, I can't believe you made those! They are beautiful. I am def. going to do a pillowcase dress for DD from etsy - - her favorite color is red so she would wear a polka dot red one all the time at home too.

DS is the tough one. He will love being in a costume so long as I have a change if he gets too hot - - he dresses up all of the time at home to tool around town. It is just the heat issue! I am going to see if I can get an etsy seller to make a woody vest, and I am going to look into a prince cape as we will def. do a princess meal and he has a superman cape already. I think I will figure out a short sleeve pirate thing for him too.

Thank you. :) I can't believe I am so into this. It must be a sign of my declining mental state that I am planning this seven months before our actual trip!!

Chirstiams is about to come and my children are crying for new costumes and specially my 3 year boy is demanding too many things as well which I can not afford. What do you people think about the cheapest way to find things around?
