I've been a bit slack & not updated since DD2 was born. :)
September 27, I woke up about 4 am with contractions. They weren't regular, or lasting very long, so, I decided to go ahead & leave for work at my normal time, thinking they'd slow down. About half way into work, I realized my mistake. However, since I was halfway in, and my labors had always been long, I went on to the office. (I start at 6:30 & usually get in about 6.) By 7, the contractions were 4 minutes apart, but still only lasting 20-30 seconds at the time. I called into the doctor & was asked to come to the office at 9 when they open, so I asked DH to come pick me up at 8:30 to go to the office. I spoke to a few people at the office and freaked out an elderly security guard who was ready to call 911 to come get me out NOW! :) DH arrived at 8:30 and off to the doctor we went. By this point, contractions were every 2 minutes, but still only lasting 20-30 seconds. Doctor checked me & sure enough, I was at 4cm, so it was off to the hospital.
After check in was completed, the nurse rechecked & I was up to 7cm by 10 am. Doctor was called in & she checked me & burst my water in the process. DD was still high (-2 station), and my contractions were still somewhat wonky. But, there was meconium in the water, so now the "special care" nursery people were being called in as well. Not long after, DD's heart rate started to decel, so they were trying to change my position to make things easier on her. About the time I got onto my right side, I realized that I had to push NOW. Doctor still didn't have on her gloves, but told me to go ahead. Since DD was so high, it was going to take a while. Yeah right. :hysterical: On the first push, I felt the ring of fire & DD was born on the third push. Doctor had just gotten her gloves on. Nursery people hadn't had a chance to get there yet. And cord blood people were just walking in the door. DD then had to spend about an hour being monitored before I got to really hold her. (They handed her to me for a few seconds after they first got her suctioned out, but then took her out of the room.)
She was doing fine. I, however, had low blood pressure (84 over 46) that night which worried everyone, but no one could determine what was causing it. (Honestly, it used to run that low regularly. I felt fine the whole time.) But, they decided I had to stay a second night to monitor me, which just about drove me batty. I'm not a good patient.
So, baby Hannah is here, and all is well. (Although, my dad leaving here on Monday after the birth because his oxygen levels were dropping was worrisome, but that's been determined to be an allergy & he's looking forward to coming & staying for a few days next week.) Here's hoping no one else has any weird illnesses any time soon!
