I have been looking at the carseat canopy. It has a piece that replaces the seat cover. Is it safe? Would it be better to get one of those bundle me things that goes over the top of the carseat??

Skip it all and just use a blanket tucked around baby, if needed, imo.

IS this a specific aftermarket product you put on your infant seat?

You should NEVER replace the car seat cover that comes with your seat, it's designed and tested and has special flame retardant properties that are important.

The rule of thumb is, IF it didn't come with the seat, don't add anything, so no cutesy bear covers for the straps, no Bundle Me's zipped into the seat.

If needed, buy a "shower cap" style cover that simple goes over the entire thing but doesn't interfere with the seat itself.

Myself, I just tucked a blanket around my kids and I had them in pretty cold climates.

Baby should be dressed in nothing thicker than a fleece jacket in the car seat, a warm blanket on top/a hat and they're fine. No big "bunting" bags needed, no puffer coats.

The thing that goes on the top is very cool, I've seen it, it's safe to take the original canopy off and replace it with this. But the 'cover' that goes in place of the crash-tested, original, flame retardant, properly labeled infant seat cover, is not an approved choice. Maybe not truly dangerous, but not worth the expense to put your child at unknown risk, know what I mean?

The bundle me I saw went over like that

I wonder which is better/warmer. The bundle me or the thing that goes on top from carseat canopy.

This is the safest kind, the one that doesn't interfere with the harness but holds all the heat in... http://jjcolecollections.com/car-seat-cover (that's just the shape of the 'shower cap style' cover in general, there are lots of cute brands).
