It's been a while (a long while...) since I've applied for jobs and interviewed. I need to email my resume to someone tonight.

Do I send PDF or Word? I assume PDF so that the formatting doesn't get wonky when someone opens my Word doc with a different word processor, but want to be sure since I don't want to commit some major work faux paus before I even get in the door ;)

Definitely PDF for formatting issues, but if you're unsure, then send both

I don't think it matters.

I have seen some wonkily formatted resumes because of my company's tool. I don't let it bother me as long as it's just formatting stuff, I look at the content. I, personally, have always sent mine in Word.

PDF without a doubt. If you send a PDF you know exactly what the other party will see. This isn't just formatting-- characters can look wonky or be replaced due to conversion issues too.

PDF hands-down. I was just dealing with this (a SAHM trying to go back to work) and aside from just plain text, PDF is the format people use as you can be sure that whoever gets it will see it exactly as you see it on your computer. With Word there are so many formatting issues, they may not have the right font, etc.

Thanks for all of the input, I'll go with PDF to avoid any potential issues.

Thanks ladies

Always PDF :-) As a Word nerd I would look to see how you formatted the document. I would turn on the paragraph/character mark up and see what you did formatting wise. For example, did you push enter 10 times to get to the next page or did you insert a page break. Did you center the line of text or push the space bar to try and line it up.

And finally, as a Mac user, PDFs play nicer then a word file.

PDF, no question.

Definitely PDF to keep your formatting. Many people also are hesitant to open Word docs due to viruses.

PDF!

As someone who is heading up a hiring process right now, I most appreciate the apps where everything requested is in a single PDF file. Short cover note in the body of the email, and then the entire application (cover letter, resume, references, etc) in one PDF file. I hate having to open 8 files for one application.
