DD's birthday party is today and I am second guessing my decision not to serve pizza. The party is from 1-2:30. I plan on serving cupcakes, cookies and fruit. Do you think I should serve pizza?

I wouldn't. If it were me I would do something salty in place of cookies since you are doing cupcakes. Pretzels, crackers with cheese, chips.

Are the parents staying? I probably would just to have something for the adults, but pretzels or veggies/dip is fine too. But for that time frame I wouldn't worry too much if it's a hassle to get more food!

No. That's the bonus of not having it at lunch time. I usually put on the invites what kind if food will be served so people can plan.

That's a tough call in my book as 1 is still lunch time for some. You could go either way or have some heavier snacks.

I agree with pp that it would be a little bit of a hard decision because 1pm can be borderline lunchtime for some people. I am one of those who always tries to schedule parties during clear non-lunch time, as I don't like the hassle/expense of serving a meal.

I was going to say it would be fine not to serve, as long as you let the parents know in advance. However, I see the party is today. I think I would either have the pizza or just have some more substantial snacks/sandwich ingredients on hand that I would give to kids. Even cheese and crackers, yogurt (assuming no dairy allergies), or something like that would work. Personally, I would always feed my kids before a 1pm party, but people assume different things.

I think that 1 pm is still lunchtime. I'd order pizza.

No, but I would include a "savory" snack along with your sweets.

Pizza.

1pm is still lunch time. If it was 2-4 AND you said what would be served on the invite (snacks and cake) then no pizza is fine. But 1pm and not heads up on what will be served, go with pizza just in case people haven't eaten lunch, otherwise you'll have grumpy hungry kids.

eh - most places that do parties have the food at the end, ime. So you aren't talking 1:00 for pizza, but more like 2:00. I don't know anyone who would expect pizza then. I would have some heavy snacks and cake and call it good. But I probably would have said on the invite.

Yes. I think many parents appreciate having real food to fill kids tummies before putting a bunch of sugar into them.

A party that starts at 1:00 likely wouldn't "eat" until 3:00 so I say no. However, if you have it they will eat it :)

We always have foo, but we grew up with parties where we always had food.

What did you do? If I were invited to your party, I wouldn't expect lunch.

Thanks everyone! The party started at 1:00 but the kids did not eat until 2:00. I added a few more snacks and did not order the pizza. It worked out fine.
