DH promised me one after DD3 was born, and then I wasn't allowed to exercise for 6 months, and then we couldn't afford it, and then we had a flood, etc, etc, etc... So anyway, I called him on it now, and he promised that he would buy it this week, but only if I do research on it. Please help me find a good one, because I'm tired of looking 5 months pregnant. I want to fit into clothes and feel good about myself.

I have this one and really like it:

I have the Sole E-35 (or a very similar model) and I was going to post and say not to get it (before I saw your post, I swear, arivecchi!) For me the stride length on it is too short and it feels like I am moving in circles rather than taking long strides. So I never use it (we got it for DH, anyway). I think rear-drive ellipticals tend to have longer stride lengths than front-drive like the Sole model does. It has been a few years since we purchased so I don't remember all the details. I strongly encourage you to go to some stores and try out a few models. I really wish I could have afforded a Precor, they have some really nice ones.

We have an Octane that we purchased at a fitness store. We tried several out (including the precor) and this one felt the best to us. As someone mentioned earlier, you really need to try them out and see what feels best to you since your stride could be different from mine. Here is the website:

We use it a lot between my husband and I and haven't had trouble with it. When we did the problem it was fixed quickly by a local fitness store. We have had it for about 7 years now and gets used twice a day between my husband and me.

How tall are you? I'm 5'7"ish with a longer stride. I wish I could try out ellipticals in the store, but I have both DD3 & 4 at home with me all the time, and that probably isn't happening (otherwise, I might actually get to a gym). I'm going to take a look at that site though. Thanks.

I have a Precor. LOVE IT! But, I had used one for months at the gym and knew that I liked the feel, stride, etc. So it was worth the investment to me.

Definitely go to a fitness store and try them out. See what feels best for you. We also have a stationary bike that DH bought and it's a perfect example of buying something because of the name/so many other people like it. We both hate it...the angle the thing has you seated is horrendous.

Interesting. Im 5'6" and mostly legs. DH is 6' tall and also uses it without any issues. It was difficult to assemble according to my brother. I like the fact that it does not take up a ton of space.

I have a rear drive elliptical. Its really old now though and we should toss it and get a new one. I think I paid like $700 about 10 years ago.

I really love the Cybex ARC machines at the gym. Those are front-drive and it does feel more like you are going in a circle I think than the one I have at home. But I also feel like I get more of a workout on it. I am only 5'2". Its probably because the Cybex ones are like $5000 used and most people who buy a home elliptical machine are spending around $1,000.

We ended up getting this one. Sears had a free delivery and assembly special for Sole products. I tried it out. The only one I liked better was $4K. So that was not happening.
Thanks for your help everyone.
