When are the bluebonnets generally in bloom and does anyone have a rec for a photographer in the area? We might be in the area in the spring and if the timing is right I would love to schedule a photo shoot. TIA

I'm north of Austin in Killeen. It seems like the bluebonnets came out in the spring time last year around February/March. I could be totally wrong though. I know some photogs in the Killeen area that do Austin shoots.

In DFW it was end of March, early April this year when they were good. Don't really have any recs for photogs.

My cousins are friends with and use http://vignettephoto.com/ (that's my family in the #1 photo in the banner) and they always get fabulous photos, including the shoot they did in the bluebonnets.

The two springs we lived in Texas we saw the bluebonnets in Ennis in March/April. Look for their bluebonnet festival. Trying to find the state park where we were able to take great pictures. DH took the pictures (me and the dogs the first year, me and DS the second).

eta: I missed the San Antonio reference, sorry. Ennis is no-where near San Antonio - oops.

Definitely end of March to early April. The photo on my avatar was taken (by me ;)) on March 24th. You should be warned that professional photos in the bluebonnets are a TX tradition that I have no doubt requires scheduling a LONG time in advance. If we have a wet winter and early spring next year should be good for bluebonnets. This year we had plenty of rain but the seedbank was pretty low.
