We were considering getting hugg a planet globe to teach our 3 year old about continents, countries etc.
Are there any other good option for teaching geography to 3 year old?

Thanks

a placemat map is great. do you know people in other states or countries? we start with that, talking a lot about who we know that lives where. works well, since of the 6 siblings DH and I have, and our parents, we all live in different states :)

another good way to start is at home, like what street your house is on, what the next street over is called, what parks/ponds/creeks/etc are near by. and then drawing a simple map. it helps them connect the abstract map with actual places.

We love the Hugg a Planet! DS1 has slept with his for years.

We also have a world map and a US map on their walls, along with various city maps that they have cut out and pasted. They have their own atlases too, a kids version and then some old road atlases that we no longer use.

This book is fantastic: http://www.amazon.com/Map-Dragonfly-Books-Joan-Sweeney/dp/0517885573/ref=la_B001HMU18G_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351564467&sr=1-1
