My DH loves Legos so I was thinking of getting him a Lego Christmas set so that I wouldn't feel so bad about buying a toy that DS can't play with yet because it could be a decoration and fun tradition to start since his birthday is in November. Any idea what set to start with? DH received a Lamborghini set from his brother last year but other than that he just has his old Legos in storage until DS is older. He ran all over town to buy that Lego set with the wrong price to store for DS and is always staring at Legos at the store with DS until I remind him DS only gets duplos now. I think it will be a hit but I don't know anything about Legos myself or where to buy them I just know the Christmas sets look cute! Advice on which sets and where to buy?

What about something from the mind storms line or one of those cool architectural sets.

I wouldn't do Mindstorm b/c there isn't really much Lego building fun with it.

All of the Christmas themed sets are nice. We have the toy shop and one other one. I love the new one this year but it's pricier than normal. We put them on the mantle for Christmas. We build them after Thanksgiving dinner some years. :)

I love all of the houses- beach and log cabin, especially.

The sets above are pricey but they're geared for older kids/adults.

The architecture sets are nice if he's into that, and there's a wide price range for those.

Lego has a Winter Village Series that they started 4 years ago. They have done one each year and they make a little town like those Dickens sets do.
3 are still available from Lego
The Bakery from 2010 http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Village-Bakery-10216 I'm pretty sure they will discontinue this one this year.
The Post Office from last year http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Village-Post-Office-10222
This year its a cottage http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Village-Cottage-10229
2009 they did a toy shop you can get it from Ebay but its a lot more expensive http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=lego+toy+shop&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=lego+10199&_sacat=0 My son loves Legos and his room is a Lego minefield but the Winter Village sets are mine. DS knows this and loves telling his friends that his mom has her own Lego sets. We pull them out each year and build them together and then set them up on the buffet in our dining room all December. I'm not happy with how much they charged for this years but I bought it anyway because they are something I plan on putting out every Christmas.
