Just found out my parents had all of the family photos stored in their basement, which was recently under 3' of water due to Sandy.
Not mad at anyone, just sad that I won't be able to share photos of my childhood with my kids.

So sorry that happened. Could you check with siblings or aunts/uncles or grandparents if you could borrow any pictures they may have and have them scanned at a local photo shop to get prints?

oh man, that truly is sad. I hope by some miracle something can be salvaged.

I also hope they are able to get their lives back to the way they were soon. Thinking and praying for those who are going through that struggle!

So sorry. I hope you can get some from other relatives to put an album together.

How heartbreaking. I'm such a sentimental person, I would be devastated to lose photos more than all the other possessions combined.

I hope, like a PP mentioned, that other family members have photos to supplement, and that your parents get their lives in order soon. So sorry they went through that.

So sorry! Any chance of looking into photo restoration for the favorites or are they in bits? You might want to call a few water flooding remediation places to see if they have photo shops or restorers they rec.

:( That would be devastating to me also.

You could ask around to see who has copies or other pics of you (and I agree with pp - see if they can be restored). Check this out: http://www.operationphotorescue.org/

It might be too late for this but just in case:

Unfortunately my parents are dealing with flood damage too. In researching cleanup stuff, I read that you can freeze photos & documents to prevent further damage and then you can sometime have them restored. I have no idea if it works, but it was from either the FEMA or red cross handbook so a legitimate source.
