Do any of y'all have Squinkies and/or Littlest Pet Shop Teensies at your house? If so, can you measure their dimensions for me? I'm wanting to make these snow globe soaps with DS as holiday give-aways for his preschool classmates and other little friends, but I'm having the hardest time finding plastic figurines that are small enough to fit in an ice cube tray: http://alphamom.com/family-fun/holidays/snow-globe-soap/

I thought Squinkies or Littlest Pet Shop Teensies might work, but I hoped maybe one of you could tell me whether you think they would fit ok in the slot of a standard ice cube tray (preferably with a little room to spare for the soap!).

Love this project, I'm going to do it, too!!!

Our Squinkie cat/dog/monster??? is 2cm tall and almost 2 cm at it's widest. I think it would be fine in a standard ice cube tray. The Squinkie girl is 2.2 cm tall and 1.5 cm at the widest. Again, I'd judge it to be fine.

If you are worried, they do make Zinkies (I think that is the name?) that are even smaller than Squinkies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALmBuCKbCv4

Thanks so much, Mama Molly! I may get a pack each of squinkies and zinkies (thanks for telling me about them--I had no idea!) and see which works best.

Ok, that is adorable. DD1 is at the age where she wants to gift all of her friends, but the cost if that makes my head hurt. This is perfect!

That is such a fun idea. I bet it wouldn't work nicely for me I seem to struggle with temperature sensitive projects. I hope you post pics after you are done though!

I've been eyeing this project for the past few years, but DS was really too young to be able to help with it, I thought. So for the past few years we made these (no melting or pricey ingredients required!): http://spoonful.com/crafts/snowball-soap-surprise

They are super easy to make (esp. if you have a food processor to grate up all the soap--a PITA if you're doing it by hand). We put little plastic penguins in them (I think I bought a "Toob" of them, but I can't really remember now) and they've been a huge hit.

I think this year DS is old enough to help with the snowglobe soaps, so we'll see how they turn out! I ordered a pack of Squinkies from Amazon and will test those out...may move on to Zinkies if the Squinkies are too big.
