If you could pick ONE toy for a 6-9 month old, what would it be? Something not super expensive?

We have some things said aside for DS for Christmas but I may buy one new item to give him and wondered what would be the most "bang for my buck"?

Some kind of stacking toy like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-567-Geometric-Stacker/dp/B0006IRTU0

At that age, my kiddos loved the colors and stacking action. If you already have them, you could get a slightly fancier stacker like this:

Thanks! We actually don't have any kind of stacker and I do remember the girls liking those, great idea. I loooove the Grimms one, I haven't seen that small one.

The IKEA nesting and stacking cups got soooooooo much use here. And they are so cheap. The girls still play with them in the bath!!

Those are great. THe red top to that set was the first thing DS1 crawled for as an infant :love-retry: We would spin it and he'd dig in and try to get it :D

That is a great little set.

I know...I was really amazed at how many things you could do with them!! My girls figured out that certain pieces set together at the open ends would make a satisfying clacking sound when rotated against each other. They made "ice cream cones" with the red top and a bottom. And of course all the stacking and pouring and rolling and spinning...

At that age, DD's favorite toys were:

Spielstabil nesting stacker (still played with at almost 3.5...you can nest them, stack them, and use at the beach or in the bath; some of the cups have holes for water to come through and others don't):

Lil shopper playset:

Also puppet books like this one:

This for us too. I liked them in the tub too (some of the cups have holes in them).
