I posted a few days ago about not using central heating during the winter. I know some of you chimed in with recommendations for ceramic space heaters. Other posters mentioned that space heaters can be really dangerous!

I'm trying to figure out the real risks in some of these newer heaters that have built in safety features. The space heaters I'm familiar with are so very different!

I've determined that space heaters would work great for our family. But I'm concerned about safety. If anyone has any information specifically about ceramic space heaters, I'd love to hear about it!

Here is the heater a pp linked:

Thank you,

Jen

You may want to check out the forums at hearth.com. Folks there use wood, pellets and other alternatives to heat their homes or to supplement central heating. Chances are good you'll find lots of picks and pans for space heaters.

You should look at oil-filled radiators. Because they're closed and don't get super hot they're much safer than other space heaters. We have a couple of these and they work great

We have 3 of these to supplement our central heating in some rooms and they work great. In my nanny's basement bedroom which is not overly big but not tiny, we have a "mini" size one and it keeps her room plenty warm.

They are very energy efficient and do not get hot enough on the exterior to burn a child.
