Parents w/ Toddlers ages 3-5....

Do your children have special utensils? (fork/spoon, bowls or plates)

If so, what are your recommendations.

I currently use adult bowls, plastic plate w/compartments and baby friendly fork/spoon. They are fine, but I've had them for at least 2 yrs. I'm thinking I need a change. :)

fwiw --- Trying to find some items that Grandma can buy for DD for Xmas. Grandma is on a budget.

Thanks

I bought these in the owl design for my DD when she turned 1:

We have also had good experiences with these from IKEA:

As for plates & bowls, I have a large selection of divided and plain melamine dishes that I've purchased at the grocery store & Target, as well as this set of enamelware:

Hope this helps!

I second the Ikea Fabler flatware.

My DD's have outgrown the toddler safety forks with the plastic handles and these work great for them.
For plates we have some small melamine ones without dividers an they use our regular bowls.

DD has her own drawer with piles of melamine bowls, plates, and cups. For flatware she uses the same Ikea set the PP linked to and will sometimes use our regular silverware.

At that age, I just use regular stuff. They're big enough to learn.

If it's purely for fun, I'd just get the character stuff that they like. Just use it on occasion.

They started using regular (Correlle) bowls and plates when they stopped throwing things and started eating at the table. They have some Nuk forks and spoons that they like but have had no problem using adult utesils from around 2yo. Recently the waitress in IHOP was shocked and amazed to see DD2 pick up a dinner fork and go to town on her pancake after I cut it up, LOL.

DD1 still uses the plastic plates that we got from Ikea. She uses the dessert forks from our silverware set and the teaspoons from our silverware set.

We have Gerber utensils, which DS1 mostly only uses because he has a strong opinion on wanting to use them. But overall, we just use regular plates and utensils for both. I do want to get Duralex Picardie glasses because I want to get away from using the plastic cups, but DS2 insists on carrying his glass into the kitchen just like his big brother, and that stresses me out too much with our regular glasses!
