Additonal postage/odd sizes....

Does anyone know if odd sized letters (such as 5 x 5 or 4 x 8) need different postage? It says so on the Shutterfly site, but I gather that is for them mailing the cards. Does the USPS require different postage? I've tried to figure it out on their site and can't see any differences.

Any square envelope will require extra postage from the USPS because it is "nonmachinable" and must be processed by hand. The 4x8 envelope should be OK (i.e. doesn't require extra postage). If you go to postcalc.usps.com, scroll down to the Letter section, and click on the "?" next to it, it will give you the dimensions of what is acceptable as a regular letter.
