DS wants a cookie cake for his birthday for his class. This is like a large chocolate chip cookie baked on an aluminum pan. I need easy decorating ideas and tips for baking it as I have never attempted this before.

Do you spread the cookie dough all the way to the edge?

Any tried and true recipes?

Any suggestions on adding. Few decorative touches? I was thinking of edging it with icing from a Betty Crocker can with the nozzle but there were more than one type. Cookie icing?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cookie cakes are very forgiving. You can spread it to the edges or make a free form shape (I've made a football before for a Super Bowl party). I just decorate with regular frosting or whip cream. Have fun!

Sounds like fun, have never done it.

This is the recipe I have used a couple times and it comes out great. I used a 12" pizza pan and it worked perfectly. I made some buttercream frosting and decorated the border and wrote "Happy Birthday" in the middle.
