For anyone considering the Wii U, the new Wii console, I would get one ASAP (you could always return later if you decide it is a no go). Much of the available inventory was sold via pre-orders and the resellers are snatching up the supply quickly. My DH managed to get a deluxe version at Walmart at midnight last night. There were only 4 of each version (basic and deluxe) available in store and all were sold at midnight. He previously struck out at Best Buy for the deluxe version.

The consensus is that the Deluxe version (at $350) is a much better value than the basic (at $300) because it comes with 32 vs 8 mb of memory, a game and accessories.

There is a deluxe bundle (with 2 games; note the age rating for Batman is still pending, so you will need to research if it is age appropriate) available now on TRU (backordered but should arrive by Christmas): http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=11902634

Target did not have a midnight launch and should have some available in store at opening today: http://www.target.com/p/wii-u-32gb-deluxe-set-console-black-nintendo-wii-u/-/A-14174037#prodSlot=medium_1_2&term=wii

Wii U games are currently buy 1, get 1 40% off at TRU: http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=11902657

Thank you for this! DH struck out at WalMart this morning, but thanks to you, I knew to send him to Target. They had 3 and he got one of them (along with an security guard escort into and out of the store!) My DS will be so excited on Christmas morning! :)

I've been on a wait list at GameStop since the preorders sold out, wonder what the chances are ill get a call. Unfortunately I have credit there so I rather not shop around. Crossing my fingers.

Our Gamestop indicated that they sold 100% of their allotment via pre-order and did not expect another shipment until March. You may want to call your store and see if you get different information. We were #50 on the Gamestop list, so opted to try and secure one elsewhere.

We weren't able get the deluxe, but did get the basic. Any thoughts on keeping that vs holding out for the deluxe?

OP: Thanks for posting, I sent dh out for one after reading your post.

The white basic models are definitely much easier to come by. So long as you are aware of the return window, I do not see any harm in holding onto the white as a back up.

I have no idea what this new Wii U is, but is it appropriate for a 5yr old? I was considering getting DS1 the old Wii for Xmas this year. I think Walmart has it for $89 on black Friday. Should I consider this instead if I can get my hands on one? Any advice appreciated!

Is the wii u console and addition to the wii or another console all together? Would be possibly interested if it's an addition.

The Wii U has better graphics and will support the newest game line ups. The newer technology comes at a much higher price though.

The Wii U is a new console. However, the Wii U allows you to play your old Wii games and use most of your old accessories. You could trade in your old Wii for around $50.
