Helmet shopping-pointers? Any specific one more safe?

We're getting ready to buy dd a new bike. We'll also do a new helmet.

Anything we need to look for in particular in a helmet? Any helmet safer than any other?

IIRC, when I bought DD her helmet, the guy at the bike store said that all helmets are held to the same standard (kind of like cribs would be) but the bells and whistles have to do with ventilation, extra padding for comfort, etc. Amazon typically has some nice ones for decent prices. I would encourage you, if you have time, to go to a B&M and let her try some on. The fit can be a little different....Giro fit DD's noggin better than Bell.
