Bday gift for 3 yo boy?

We've been invited to the birthday party of a neighbor's little boy who will be turning three. In response to questions about what sorts of interests he has and what he likes, we were told he loves pirates. Can anyone get my imagination going with some good options for gifts for this age?

My nephew just turned 3 and he is also into pirates.

We gave him a puzzle, similar to this one:
