I don't drink coffee but need to find a gift for a coffee lover(Dh's uncle). Any suggestion on where can I find one. TIA!

This could be a regional thing, but I really like Peet's Coffee (http://www.peets.com/fvpage.asp?rdir=1&) for mass produced brands. I also like Einstein Brothers Bagels coffee. If they like strong coffee then I would do Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (www.coffeebean.com/) if you don't have any local baristas. I can't even drink their half caf. coffee because it is pretty strong and equal to regular coffee in my book and I can't drink most regular brands of coffeehouse coffee because I get jitters from most regular caffeinated coffee, but sometimes can drink half caff. coffee and am okay.

If you have a Cost Plus World Market in your area they usually have a nice selection of coffees if you want to do a variety pack. Coffee Bean also had a variety pack last year at Costco.

Thought of another brand, Illy (http://www.illy.com/wps/wcm/connect/en/home), it is an Italian brand. Overall that is probably my favorite and little less mass markety than the ones I listed above, but still I think it is easy to find.

This brand of coffee is from my home town, Puroast Coffee (http://www.puroast.com/). My dad loves this stuff. I think I have had it a few times, but it was a long time ago.

We have been really pleased and Einstein Bros coffee too! Though maybe that's not "special" enough for a gift?

I'd go to a local barista, not a mass chain, and talk to them. We have a favorite that sources, roasts and sells fresh beans.

I agree Peet's is a good option for coffee but maybe not for a gift since it can be found almost anywhere.

However... to answer the question "best coffee I ever had", it was at the house of a friend of DH from business school, I'm a coffee lover and I was floored by the coffee he served me, so I asked, and it turns out it's portuguese and he would buy some to bring back home every time he went to Spain (he's Spanish). I'd pay serious money to get my hands on some of this coffee, but I have no idea where it can be found or what the brand was. So anyway, maybe you can find Portuguese coffee at the World Market? Colombian Coffee is also pretty good.

Many coffee-philes like Intelligentsia Coffee. You can mail order it.

Their Black Cat espresso blend and El Diable dark roasts are coffee classics.

For something a little more "off the beaten path", we love Alterra Coffee from Milwaukee.

DH is a coffee snob, and for some time was ordering mail-order from Terroir Coffee, who buys direct from small growers they source, and ship very quickly after roasting. Pricey, but it's amazing coffee, and almost beyond fair trade. He really likes La Minita and La Esperanza and the Ethiopian Sidamo.

He also really likes Intelligentsia that Beth linked above.

Victrola is a fave here. Every bit as good and some roasts better than anything I have ever had from intelligencia. I think they sell online.

We love Mayorga's Cafe Cubano. Dh is a coffee junkie and stopped buying any other coffee after trying this one.

:yeahthat: Very good coffee if your are looking something with a 'this is fancy stuff' feeling. We had it in Michigan last year for the first time and I was impressed.
That being said...DH still loves his Starbucks Verona which is a very good dark roast. www.starbucksstore.com/caffè-verona/VM_CAFFEVERONA,default,pd.html (http://www.starbucksstore.com/caffè-verona/VM_CAFFEVERONA,default,pd.html)
If he doesn't have a french press...get him one. Makes such a nice cup of coffee.

Haven't tried it but next time we're in the Strip District in Pittsburgh there's a Mexican market there that has a coffee called...."Wake the F*#% Up!" that I plan on buying. :-)

My favorite coffee is Blue Bottle. They have locations in SF and NY. I have had intelligentsia and it's pretty good but not as good as my beloved Blue Bottle.
