what are hex bugs?

realize this might seem very ridiculous b/c i should be able to look it up... problem is, i did look it up. i still don't understand what they are.

please explain and tell if it's a good toy for a 3 yr, 9 mnth old boy

There are different kinds. There are big ones that move around to sound, etc. But, my kids, and most, seem to have the Nanos. They are small and vibrated and move around because of the vibrations. you can build houses and tracks from Lego or Magnatiles, or buy hexbug specific tracks. They are fun. DS1 got them at 6.5, which made DS2 2.5. They all enjoyed them and DS2 still does.
