So it is only the beginning of December and I'm growing bored of wearing tall riding boots and leggings/skinnies. Don't get me wrong, I love the look and comfort but I need another casual shoe/boot. I usually wear leggings/skinnies with Toms or ballet flats and no socks, of course. It's getting colder and I need to wear socks all the time. I had a pair of Chelsea boots that I returned because I felt like I looked like Tom Petty :jammin:
I'd still like an ankle or casual flat boot, I think. I don't really wear boot cut or wide leg jeans/pants so I don't want Merrill type shoe and I have a pair of Frye clogs (that look really silly with skinnies). I WAH so I don't need a dressy shoe.

So I found these that I like http://www.zappos.com/steve-madden-jaax-cognac-leather

I have a pair of chucks so I'm covered on the casual sneaker look.

Thoughts?? Any suggestions with links please :)

If you are primarily doing straight leg or skinnies, I am a big fan of the Frye Engineer boot. It has a little bit of bada$$ to it that I like :) I think these are mine: http://www.zappos.com/frye-engineer-12r-smoke I get compliments all the time, and I think they are comfortable.

The other one that I think looks really good with those type of pants are wedge boots like this one: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/boots/PRDOVR~28671/28671.jsp if you are ok with some heel. I see these shoes all the time, and they are able to hold up to rolled up boyfriend jeans, skinnies, skirts, etc.

Ya know, I keep going back to the Frye engineers but I have two pairs of tall Fryes and I'm not sure I want to purchase a third pair. Those Jcrew MacAlister boots are pretty much spot on with what I was looking for- a good balance of polish and casual. Love them. But that price....ugh! I hate paying full price for anything, especially clothes and shoes. I found a few cheaper options but the heel is a little higher than I would like. Those Jcrew ones aren't too high for everyday wear with my kids.

Thank you so much for chiming in and offering your thoughts :) I'll let you know if I bite the bullet.

Just going by shoes & bottoms, it sounds like we have similar style. Some of the shoes that fill the gaps for me are Doc boots, Toms botas, and of course Uggs when my feet are really cold.

Thanks Lara, that's what I need, a pair of gap fillers for this days when I want to be warm and comfortable. I was also looking at the toms botas (last year too actually) but I haven't gotten them yet. I think they would be great but I have two pairs of Toms, two frye tall boots, frye clogs, mid uggs... See a pattern? Toms botas would be so comfortable I bet. So I think I'm between the botas and the jcrew MacAllisters DC noted above. I appreciate your input you two.

Subbing. I've had my eyes peeled for something like this too, but in a low-price range!

So I couldn't get those Jcrew booties out of my mind so I went back and they were 25% off but didn't have my size. I did a search and came up with some close options and ended up ordering these
http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=398836002&tid=plggpb1r&kwid=1&ap=7&sem=true&pcrid=25250483370

I found a 20% off code and had a $10 reward coupon and used my Gap card so it brought them down to $110 with free shipping and returns so I ordered them. I prefer the darker tan to the sand anyway so I hope these work out. Anyone hear of this brand before: BiBi Lou??
