I'd like to get my 4 year old a styling head, because I am getting tired of her brushing MY hair every day. Would love some recommendations.

The Barbie heads of my youth are no more, and the current ones look a little dinky.
The Corolle one (http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Miss-Hairstyling-Head/dp/B001U3ZGZK) looks age appropriate and so nice, and I'd pay, but the reviews are no good.

Is there a wonderful PBK option or some other store I'm not thinking of?

I have wondered this too. I have heard awful irl comments about the Barbie one (I wish I still had mine from 35 years ago).

My mom just picked a big and little one up for my niece since she had both on her wish list...both get pretty bad reviews :( They were both the actual Barbie ones. I tried finding her a good alternative before she ordered and came up empty handed!

My friend has and loves the one at young explorers but it is $$. I got one for my daughter on amazon that is meant for hairstylists with real hair so you can brush and wash the hair. It was $30. Haven't given it yet so no reviews firsthand!

Smart! I would have expected them to cost more than $30.

I also had to buy the clamp to hold it on a flat surface for $7.

I loved my barbie styling head when I was young. She got several haircuts so by the end she was looking pretty sorry but I played with that toy tons! When I was looking at the current ones I came to the same conclusion as PPs in that she was not nearly as good as before. I mentioned this to my hairstylist and she recommended what another post here said; buy a "real" styling head from a beauty supply place like Sally's. She said that would be way better.

Those real ones look nice but the review that says its pretty common for them to be full of dead lice creeped me out a bit!

Just wanted to update. I'm opening boxes to wrap presents up today and I just opened the styling head I got. I took it outside to open it in case there were any lice :irked: but I inspected the head closely and shook it out and didn't see anything. The idea that it was someones hair on their head is kind of creepy, but this head has a lot of hair and I know my DD will enjoy it. There are a few gray/white hairs scattered in there, not sure if my DD will notice that but I did. Also the hair is not 100% one length, there are layers. Overall for the price, it looks very nice. Can't wait for my DD to open it!

I was in the same boat 2 or 3 years ago, right down to liking the Corelle one, but not the price or bad reviews. I bought one from Toys R Us that I think is Bratz, but very un-offensive Bratz. I wanted a brunette one, ideally darker skinned, and not too princess-y or slutty, and this fit. The current Bratz one is this:

and ours is similar, but a little less mean looking.

It's ok. The biggest problem is that the hair is in plugs and rather thin, so not much like styling real hair, and it easily separates to show the weird-looking plugs. But it doesn't tip over much, it's a nice substantial size, and it's a decent toy. DD1 and DD2 have both played with it on occasion and I think it made them feel empowered about their hair (ridiculous word, but an accurate one) and that was my major goal. DD1 got much better braiding by playing with it a few times.

DD's had this one for 2 years and it's held up well. Then, it was $10 at Walgreen's. It is small though.

My DD got this one a few years ago and plays with it fairly regularly. It is still in pretty good shape, considering!

That head looks fantastic! I love the rollers, and the wide base with accessory storage. Unfortunately I didn't realize it is a Canadian store.... Shipping to the US is $25 (!). But, great options for those in .ca.
