I have an iphone and the vast majority of people I would text with also have iphones, so I don't have a texting plan because I only imessage. Well, I keep getting texts from unknown numbers with stupid messages like "yo". Sometimes I ignore them, but sometimes I text back saying "you have the wrong number. please don't text me." It's annoying because I'm paying for every text I receive and for every text I send asking them not to text me. I seem to get texts from the same numbers over and over again. Can I block these people?? I've just gotten another "yo" text and wrote back saying wrong number, please don't text me, and the person is now texting me back again asking who I am. It's none of their freakin' business who I am. And then they text again to correct their spelling. Ugh. STOP IT!!!!

I was thinking you could just block the number but I guess it depends on the phone and carrier. I just looked it up on ATT and it seems that for iPhones you would have to sign up for a smartlimits plan that is $4.99 a month. Sort of defeats the purpose. :shake: Boo on ATT.

I don't know about other carriers though.

I have verizon. I suppose I should check. I know the easiest thing is to buy the stupid text plan, but I'm not getting $10 worth of wrong number texts a month, so it's really not worth it.

I think you can block the number with Verizon if it is the same number

I never could figure out a way with Verizon. You could just turn off texting.

I was able to block 5 spam numbers from texting me on Verizon, although I happened to go into the store to have it done, and they took the spam numbers off the text messages on my phone and blocked them in their system. I'm not sure if you can do that yourself online on your account, haven't tried.

It also won't help much if you have a problem with more than 5 numbers, but if you got rid of the 5 worst offenders, it would still probably help, and it's free.

I called ATT once about repeat texts that I was getting from the same number. They said that I could block all texting (no thanks) or pay to selectively block (again, no thanks). Recently I read something from them about a way to report any unwanted texts and not be charged for them though... of course now I don't remember where I saw it so I don't know the number. I'm not sure if it's new or if they don't know or just don't want to tell ppl about it though.
