Happy Hanukkah! One night down. Started small with a groovy girl for dd1 and she loved it. Can't wait to see her reaction to Marie-Grace :)

Yes, Happy Chanukah and a great big Happy 95th Birthday to DH's grandma! DC always think it's cool when her b-day falls during the holiday. A few years ago it was on the last night, so there were lots of candles burning for her. :)

Happy Hanukkah from our family to yours!

Here's the song I will likely be humming all week long, the old favorite Adam Sandler Hanukkah song:

Chag Semeah!

I recently discovered Neil Diamond's cover of this song. Great for those who appreciate Adam Sandler's humor but not his voice. :tongue5:

We're singing this Woody Guthrie Hanukkah song on our Holiday Pops program this weekend (let's just say the Indigo Girls' version is probably a better fit to the song than the full orchestra & chorus version that we're doing!):

We aren't Jewish but my girls love the Hanukkah Pandora station so lots of Hanukkah songs around here!

Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating!

Marie, I'm pretty sure that isn't really Neil Diamond but a spoof version by someone who sounds like him. Cute though! I love the Adam Sandler precisely because of his off key singing - goes with the words! I tell my DH that will be Sandler's one sure enduring legacy, even if his comedy doesn't endure.

I didn't know about the Woody song but I'll have to look for it - thanks!

Oh, it's real alright. It came out a few years ago. The animation is kind of amateurish, I see why you'd think it was fake.

If we're sharing Chanukah songs, look up the Maccabeats and also the Fountainheads. My kids got their kitchen last night, and they played until they were begging to go to sleep. Oh sorry, except for my two year old, who was so excited to have the whole thing to herself, that I finally had to turn off the lights downstairs and tell her the kitchen is tired. They're already downstairs playing with it. I say success ( which is good because we are now out of Chanukah presents. We went with one from both us and the grandparents this year. )

Thanks!

We are having such a good time and my boys are really into it.

One of the best parts has been seeing them incorporate the Hannukah story into their play. DS2 has been playing all sorts of games with Maccabees involved & DS1 keeps making jokes about things lasting longer than we expected (ie. " I thought there would only be enough apple juice for one drink, but really we could fill 8 cups! Amazing!") DS2 was running around being a superhero, and one of the guys was saying "Super Jewish! Brave and Strong!" It definitely reinforces everything I believe about Jewish Early Childhood Education.

We decorated a Hannukah Banner that I bought last year at 50% off. Huge hit, we could all contribute, and I highly recommend it!

Gifts have been successful as well. (old hand-me-down Play Station 2 being a big winner)

Hoping all the holiday happiness continues -- for everyone!

I stand corrected! Who knew Neil Diamond had a sense of humor? (or that his voice is a shadow of its former self?)

Happy Hannukah!
We had a really nice two days and my daughter is just excited about the lights and doesn't really get the present aspect of it, so we are doing a different 'theme' each night, which feels so great this year..
So far we have had one present for each (almost 5 yo and 14 month) from their old babysitter, who acts like a grandmother and one fun party at a friend's house... we are going to do a movie night; a 'experience' night (not sure what yet); a baking night; and charity night; a game night. My parents aren't nearby or else I would love to make one night about them.
Some presents mixed in there... this feels like the first year my daughter really gets it. It is really nice.
