DH's chemistry mag (C&EN) came today, and this article was in it. I thought it might be of interest.

Some experiments indicate they may be contributing to cell damage and increased rates of STDs. They also mention they may impact vaginal flora, and thereby increase the likelihood of a woman developing bacterial vaginosis. It will be interesting to see where the research goes and how manufacturers respond.
