and what's so great about it? I ordered the mini today but need to choose a case. Here's a little background to help: don't think I want the smartcover since it doesn't offer any protection (against drops, oopsies, etc). I saw the Griffin and Otterbox cases in store, but not sure if they would be too bulky for me? I will be the primary user of the mini, but I could see both DD's using from time to time (6 and almost 2) so would like a little protection at least since even I could drop it. Hit me with your recs please!

No minis in our house but 2 iphones, 2 ipod touches, and 2 ipads. We have otterbox defenders on all of them. With little kids around, I just feel like it is better safe than sorry and I can deal with the bulk if it means protection. We've certainly been saved by our cases.

I've never dropped an ipad, but I have my phone multiple times and it still looks perfect.

Just wanted to say I ordered the Otterbox Defender case for my mini and just got it today. I'm the primary user but wanted the extra protection in case my DDs got a hold of it and dropped it. Have to say so far I'm liking it. Not as slim obviously with the case on, but I feel more secure using it and even carrying it around. So far so good.

I got a speck pixelskin for my iPad for Christmas, and I like it ok. It is still pretty slim and it offers some protection. It also has the sleep/wake function and can snap shut. My only gripe is that is doesn't fold up properly to work as a stand, but it will hopefully loosen up over time.

The two oldest DDs (13 and 6) got iPad minis for Christmas. I got them both Griffin Survivors, with a matching survivor for DD3's iPod. The kids all love their cases, especially the little stand that comes with the iPad cases. I found the iPod case as a repackaged item at target for $28, and the iPad mini cases were Best Buy price matched from amazon's online price for around $40 each a few days before Christmas.

I had a Speck Folio, which was great. Nice and slim. Then my ipad mini fell less than a foot onto a rug, and the screen shattered all the way across, in a big v with a concentrated area of shatter. Now I have an Otterbox Defender. It's not nearly as bulky as I thought it was going to be. You don't have to use that extra cover, though I do find itself using it more than I thought I would. I put it on the front every time I put the ipad down or am walking around with it.

I got a mini for Christmas and DH gave me an Otterbox Defender to go ith it. I really liked the Defender, but unfortunely it didn't fit my needs. I will use the mini for work. I do a lot of handwriting in meetings and storyboard various processes and the screen protector on the Defender doesn't play well with my styluses (styli?)

I switched to a canvas folio style case by Rocketfish (Best Buy's inhouse brand) and its been great for my needs.
