My DC had his last day of school yesterday, and his teacher enclosed a personalized gift for me and a cute mug for my DC in his backpack. I've been serving as her only room parent and also help out the school in other ways as well, but didn't anticipate she would give me a gift. Would sending an email to acknowledge and thank her for the gift be tacky? I would also give her a handwritten card, but she would receive that via my DC once school is in session in a few weeks. Thank you for your advice.

Was it a thank you gift?

In which case, I don't think you need to do anything. I've gotten thank you gifts from teachers for acting as a room parent or some other class role before.

ETA: An e-mail to acknowledge you got it would be nice. :)
