Called a few dry cleaners today about pillows we have that were lightly dusted with mold spores. Seems as though no one cleans pillows, and if they do, hey charge $10 each. Totally not worth it. I probably have at least 10 to be cleaned.

I've washed mine in my front loader.

I've washed mine in my front loader.

:yeahthat:

I dry them on extra low with tennis balls to fluff them up.

Just put them in the washer.

I usually do light spot cleaning with a wet rag and then lay them in the sun during the hottest part of the day.

Ok, we'll try them in the top loader we are using right now. That should be okay, right? (I'm trying to think if we have any tennis balls here. I'm thinking not.) Thanks for the feedback!

In a top loader, make sure to use the gentle cycle and have 2 in there to balance the washer. Unless they're unused, you should get a new can of tennis balls anyway, but of course, whatever is the cheapest brand is fine.

Vinegar or ammonia in the wash will help kill mold spores.

You guys are awesome - seriously. Saving me $$$$ and frustration. We'll pick up some new tennis balls today. Not sure why I thought used ones would be okay, lol.

Question on the tennis balls. The ones we have been buying for the dog smell horrid when he chews them up-like nasty asphalt smell.

That wouldn't come off in the dryer would it?

Never noticed any odor at all from using tennis balls in the dryer. Works great for me.

Thank you. I have a bloodhound nose and the smallest scent makes me kookoo (if u ask ru I'm kookoo anyway lol).

I'll try this bc I have washed them in the old top loader but they came out lumpy. Our old washer died (right at Christmas!) and we have a new one coming tomorrow-sans agitator...so I hope I can wash larger objects without unbalancing the machine!
