Let's talk vacations - we've NEVER been on a cruise before. What are you thoughts on taking DS on a cruise? He'll be one year old at the beginning of April. I'm thinking we'll go late summer, but I'm still uncertain.

We took DS1 a year ago when he was 18 months. He LOVED it!! We had a fantastic time too. We are planning to take another cruise in a year when DS1 is 3.5 and DS2 is 13 months. I highly recommend Royal Caribbean. The staff was incredible with DS1. Cruise Critic has a family board where you can get tons of great info on what to pack, ehat to expect, etc.

We took DD on an Alaskan cruise when she was 11 months old. It was wonderful!

Cruise Critic is a great resource. We went on Holland America and were some of the youngest people on the ship but that was fine. Service, amenities and meals were wonderful.

We did a LOOOONNG cruise when DS was 18 months old. It was great. He was too young for the kids club program, but our ship had a few things for littler ones - you could sign out toys and keep them for a few days, then bring them back and get different ones. Everyone on the ship knew DS because of the little pull-along dog he took with him everywhere. There was also a daily playgroup where some of their kids club counselors would bring toys and the kids/parents could play for an hour.

They had a pack n play set up for us in our cabin so we didn't have to bring one.

The staff was super good with kids - always brought them fruit cups at the start of dinner, made fun shapes with napkins at dinner and towels in our babin, told jokes and did little magic tricks to entertain them.

Our trip involved crossing several time zones, so DS's sleep was all out of whack the first few days and it was nice to have the ship to wander at night so one of us could take DS and the other could get some sleep.

They did offer babysitting but we never took advantage of that.

There was also the option to do room service, we never did but that was our backup if DS ever had a meltdown during dinner and we had to leave.
