I don't think I've formally announced it - drumroll please - DD2 has WEANED! Unlike her sister, who self-weaned at 18 months, DD2 would have happily nursed, um, forever, I think. So with a lot of encouragement, conversations, patience, and finally, by allowing my supply to diminish greatly, DD stopped nursing a few weeks ago, at 2 years 7 months.
I honestly never thought I'd nurse so long. With both kids, my goal was one year. With DD2, I gradually realized it might be more like two years. Starting in the summer of 2012, I started reducing nursing sessions so we were down to about 3/day. Then down to two by the Fall, sometimes just one a day. Then I had 4 work trips over a 5 week period in Nov-Dec and that pretty much clinched it. DD and I talked about it and she asked for a bottle and cuddles and after a week of her not asking to nurse, I realized we had made it to weaning.
Don't get me wrong - it was bittersweet to end a wonderful nursing relationship, especially since we don't plan to have more kids. But by nursing for that length of time, I think DD managed to get me to a point where I was way more ready to be done than wistful about it. Well done, little one! Now to get you off bottles....
Thanks so much to this board for the support and advice over the years. Kid Food (or whatever it used to be called 7 years ago) was one of the first boards I came to (for bfing advice) and I truly believe I couldn't have done it without you!
