I am looking for a deal on a convertible carseat just to keep in garage for the grandparents when they watch my son. Just in case of an emergency. Thanks.

How quickly do you need a car seat, because if you can hold out a few weeks more you may get better prices. Last year, in the last week of February, Target had a car seat sale, and BRU usually has its car seat sale in the Spring. I also think Amazon begins having lower car seat prices in February to make way for new inventory.

Btw, I love my Cosco Apartment car seat, which I bought last year at Target for $40 and would fit the bill as an emergency seat. The only issue is that it has 2 attached cup holders, which may not work for very small cars.

We have a Cosco Scenera for my parent's house. We purchased it for around $40 on sale at Target. Walmart carries it online. I bought it after a recommendation from the ladies on the car seat forum.

Looks like there are some good deals at Kohls right now. Here's the SD link

If your parents will be installing it, I'd be hesitant to do the Cosco Scenera. We own two, and I love them for travel since they're cheap and lightweight, but they're a bear to install RF in pretty much any car, and FF in some cars. (In many vehicles you need one or more pool noodle segments to get a good install either RF or FF.) I also have a Radian, which I adore, but it's also got a bit of a learning curve for installation, and the harness adjuster requires so much strength to tighten the harness that my mother can't do it. My parents don't drive our kids, but if they needed a seat in their car I would definitely prioritize ease-of-use over cost. Unless you're confident your parents will be comfortable installing a tricky seat, or unless you'd always be doing it, I'd lean towards an easier-to-install seat like a Britax. Those Kohls deals look pretty nice!

How old is your child? Is he still rearfacing? If you don't need the extra rearfacing height of the Frontier, you could get a cheaper seat like the Britax Roundabout.

If you choose the Cosco seats, at least for the Apt series, the seats come in plastic covers. Because of this, they are easy returns to a store in case it doesn't work out because there is no open box problem.

Thanks for posting, OP! My 5 month old is only 3lb away from outgrowing her infant carrier, so I'm thinking about the Diano.

Hi boltfam -- I had 2 marathons for DS1, now have 2 of these for DD1

http://www.albeebaby.com/britax-pavilion-70-g3-convertible-car-seat-sophia.html

and about to purchase a 3rd Sophia off the Kohls site. I usually buy on albeebaby.com (not tax, no shipping) but the Kohls deal is about $30 better (even with tax) and I have Kohls cash I need to use up from all the Kitchen Aid blenders I bought before xmas!!

ETA: my DD1 is 18 months old, she has been in her Sophia since 2 months (rear facing) as she hated the infant Peg Perego and would scream on every car ride until I switched her into a bigger seat. My DS on the other hand was in his infant carrier (same peg) until he was almost 8 months old - he loved it! He switched to a marathon at 8 months and stayed in that seat until he was 5 1/2, then we moved him to the clek booster (with a back).

ETA 2: Couldn't use my Kohls cash online (guess it expired Jan 1, but I know my store will still take it - I'll try taking the receipt in and asking them to apply the Kohls cash). My total for the seat was $223 w/tax and I earned another $40 Kohls cash. Awesome deal!

Thanks, choccie! I ended up ordering the Britax seat you linked to! We love our MA, so I decided to stick with a Britax.
