View Full Version : s/o: what Corelle pattern do you have?

Add me to the list of people who thought Corelle was old lady looking and kind of passed over it until we had kids. In 2009 I bought two lunch plates, two saucers, and two cereal bowls for DD1. I really like it and need to get some more for the kids (and we like to use them for work as well), and at $31 for a 16 piece set it would be nice to have some extras (and maybe even another set for parties, but we don't entertain all that much).

We have the Memphis pattern (http://www.corelle.com/patterns/memphis).

eta: My in laws have this one Corelle Blossoms in Lace (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://i.ebayimg.com/t/CORELLE-DINNERWARE-BLOSSOMS-IN-LACE-DESSERT-PLATES-SET-6-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/%24(KGrHqIOKjwE6lLij,CQBOvCpUwY6g~~60_35.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.ebay.com/itm/CORELLE-DINNERWARE-BLOSSOMS-IN-LACE-DESSERT-PLATES-SET-6-/110773660112&h=300&w=225&sz=8&tbnid=LFKsbyop40dIUM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=68&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcorelle%2Bblossoms%2Bin%2Blace%26tbm% 3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=corelle+blossoms+in+lace&usg=__gDRzK0AFV_uH0Xpz7_4EYG__jcg=&hl=en&sa=X&ei=pWLsUMSHE8bOiwL_5IC4BQ&ved=0CCgQ9QEwBQ), and it was kind of the reason I thought it was a little old lady looking.

I also like this one, Corelle Happy Days (http://www.corelle.com/patterns/happy-days) and it might be fun as the extra set for parties and such, plus it will go nicely with my everyday Heathware for complementary pieces.

Plain white with square plates and square bowls. A nice change from the traditional round style. Full disclosure: I probably do qualify as an old lady...

I know I'm going to be laughed at but I love Butterfly Gold. It's what I grew up with, and I'm a total schmaltz so it makes me happy.

I only have a couple of random thrifted pieces (my everyday dishes are vintage Fiesta) but I enjoy them very much!

We have Winter Frost White. DH calls them our 'timeshare dishes', but they're perfect for our lifestyle right now.

The luncheon plates are great for DD and as portion-control reminder for me!

We had the same set growing up!

I liked it, but I liked my parents' USS Constitution dinnerware a lot better:

DH's grandma has a mix of that and either Almond Gold or Summer Citrus. I remember seeing that a lot growing up as well. It was really common.

How have the square plates worked for you? pros and cons?

We have a few square ones, in varying sizes, used mostly for appetizers. They look nice with some hummus in the middles, surrounded by veggie, crackers, antipasto etc.

I like to check goodwill for vintage corelle and found these awesome ones, for the kids. Love the small olive green flower pattern around the edge.

How have the square plates worked for you? pros and cons?

I really like them. The set I got (sorry I can't link to it but i haven't mastered that on my iPad) came with 2 different sizes of plates, and the larger, dinner, plates seem HUGE so I mostly use the smaller plates. However, I think larger plates are now common in lots of styles. The square bowls and plates stack really well in the dishwasher and fit in my normal kitchen cabinets (even the dinner plates). I've had them for about 5 years and they're a nice change of pace from the old heavy pottery dishes I'd had for years.

That's what we had when I was growing up. I don't use much Corelle, but I did buy a set of four of the frosted white (the plain white ones) and I actually quite like using them, so if there's a good deal on these, I might pick up a second set.

I have Pacific Bloom.
http://www.corellecollector.com/Resources/pacificbloomdinnerplate.jpg
I love Corelle but I am not particularly fond of this pattern. For my wedding I told my mom that I wanted a set of Corelle for my everyday dishes. My grandmother went and bought me the set as a wedding present without asking about the patter and I couldn't turn around and tell her I didn't like the pattern.
I think she picked the pattern because the outlet where she bought them from had every imaginable matching piece Corelle manufactured. In addition to the actual dishes, I got trivets, salt and pepper shakers, creamers, placemats, kitchen towels, serving platters, a spoon rest, utensil holder, etc. You name it, I got it.
I still have everything except the placemats and the kitchen towel 13 years later. I kept them in the divorce. :)

I have the Apricot Grove patter.

http://www.shopworldkitchen.com/corelle/apricot-grove-set-6022004

I am amazed they are still in production, since my plates are more than 25 years old. I picked them because they matched the peach and blue bedspread I was bringing up to college my freshman year.

I have replaced a few pieces over the years, since there is a Corelle outlet near me. I have also picked up a few plates and bowls in the plain white square style.

I grew up with Butterfly Gold, too. I think my mom got them through a promotion with the local grocery store...I remember them being brand new. My parents still use them every day. I'm not as nostalgic about that pattern...but it is familiar.

I wanted a set of Corelle dinnerware for our everyday plates...but couldn't find a pattern I liked when we got married. I like our current plates (I don't remember the brand) but they don't hold up as well as the corelle and they are HEAVY.

Wow, talk about bringing back memories! My parents had the olive green flower thing that a PP linked (uses for her kids) and my cousins' parents had the almond butterfly thing! I remember those because my aunt baby-sat me 3 days a week when I was little, and I hung out there with my cousin a lot because we were the same age. We grew up in small towns in the midwest, in the early 80's, and I bet those patterns were both specials offered at the local grocery store. :)

I think my mom had the butterfly gold for a long time, LOL.

She has also had these:

Callaway (http://www.corelle.com/patterns/callaway)

And maybe Bonnie Rose or SUmmer Blossom? I can't tell for sure. Those are the ones I remember.

When DH and I were first married we had Fruit Too. I have been thinking about getting a set for the kids, and getting rid of all the melamine plates. I like that Memphis pattern! Goes well with our multi-colored Fiestaware!

Lol, we have the timeshare one too. I like them, it's not exciting, but it's easy enough to compliment with other things if you want to, kwim? I basically wanted something neutral that would not go out of style. My issue with most corelle patterns is that they are just unattractive to me, and maybe I would have gotten one with a pattern back when we got ours, if there was one that I actually liked.

Annie, I LOVE that Happy Days pattern, it is so whimsical and well... happy! If we didn't already have a set, I'd actually consider it.

We have Happy Days and really love the set. The only downside is that the small plates are really big (almost full-size). When we have dessert on them they seem ridiculous, but for dinner, they are perfect for the kids plates.

Plain white here - - or as it's now called i think - WINTER WHITE FROST!

I tried the square ones, but they were pricier and I found SO many plain white round at yard sales & Goodwill that i gave the square to my mom.

Supplemented my set with the devided plates which we LOVEEEE! (discovered on these boards) which also go better with round for storage...and then last week supplemented again with the DEEP cereal/soup bowls which we now also really LOVE!

i figured if i have plain white - i won't get as tired of it.

I found this to be true as well when I bought DD1's set, which is the only thing that makes me nervous about buying a whole 16 piece set is that we would never use the dinner plates as the salad plates are a great size especially for the kids. I'd like to get some divided dishes as well. We have an outlet near by us too and I need to stop in soon, but I don't recall seeing the divided dishes there originally.

We have Del Norte http://www.amazon.com/Corelle-Ultra-16-Piece-Dinnerware-Service/dp/B000HZYL4Y/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

They are great for kids plates - virtually indestructible. Now that the kids are a little older we are slowly transferring over to Fiesta ware.

I think our cups are different though. I bought my set in 2001 and my mother bought hers when I was 10 or 11, so differences are entirely possible. The patterns are still the same.

Callaway. I liked a different pattern but found out it was being retired, so we went with a common pattern that was easy to find additional pieces for, since we had it on our wedding registries. We have the full set of plates (3 sizes) and it is nice that I have some serving ware and accessories that match (serving platter, 9x11 casserole, 2 round casseroles, gravy boat, salt & pepper shakers, spoon rest, napkin holder, tea cups and saucers, cutting board, trivet, and 6 ramekins. We use it as our everyday dinner dishes, and its nice that the girls can use it to and no worries of breaks or chips. My grandmother has the same pattern, so sometimes she passes things down to me that she no longer uses.

We have the friendship pattern because I thought it was pretty when I was buying dishes to take with me to college.

http://www.corellecollector.com/Resources/friendshipdinnerplate.jpg

Of course I think it is hideous now. We don't use then as our main dishes. I mostly use them for cooking (I love the small bowl size) or for eating ice cream since the bowls from our main set are HUUUUGE.

I have some Old Town Blue. I also had purchased some Winter Frost deep soup bowls from Target because the stoneware we were using got SO hot in the microwave that we couldn't reheat our soup in it! We were eating with oven mitts, lol. In late November, I found the Winter Frost dish sets on sale at Target. It was $18 for a 16 piece set. I bought two! I really like Corelle. I don't really think they're the prettiest dishes I've ever seen, but functionality is superb.

I don't have any and have never liked Corelleware, but I did keep considering and rejecting it when I bought new dishes a few years ago. but the thread made me look at Corelle patterns again and I really like this one:
http://www.corelle.com/patterns/muse-grey

I especially like that it has the wide lip around it, which I think is more attractive when food is on it. Not many Corelleware plates have a lip.

I'm going to tuck this pattern away in the back of my mind.

We just switched to Corelle from Fiestaware, my parents were complaining that it was too heavy. We have the plain square white--there were really cheap at the Corelle outlet before Christmas--I paid approx $35 for 10 of the dinner plates.
