Cold area. Want a very warm comforter for a guest room. I use an old down one myself (which has turned yellow, but still functional and I wash in the machine once a year, so). Love the warmth, but if I can get similar in a synthetic one so I can prevent the yellowing bit so much the better. MANY thanks!

I love my ikea 365 MYSA down alternative comforter. We put that in a flannel cover and its toasty!

I was also going to suggest IKEA.

We have 4 of the Ikea Mysa Ronn comforters and they are SO warm. Our bedroom doesn't get enough heat and can get down to 55 degrees if we don't turn on the space heater but I still sleep well under that comforter.

We really like the St. Tropez comforters from The Company Store and use them 3 seasons out of the year (Northeast).

I have a medium weight comforter for the company store. It is WARM! Mid-way through the night I find myself kicking the covers off. But I am normally freezing, so in my book, that's a perfect problem to have.

I just wanted to add that any comforter is warmer with a duvet cover (or even 2 - we used to put a plain one underneath to make laundry easier) around it. The difference is huge, for some reason.

Covering it prevents yellowing, too, to some degree. It will eventually, but much more slowly, and hey, it never shows when it's covered - you just buy a new duvet cover.

Personally, I have never found a poly cover to be as warm as down.
