My inlaws live in Louisiana and send a King Cake every year for the kids to share with their classmates. I'd like to read a book to the kids too so that they can have a better understanding of the tradition. I would love suggestions for books that would be appropriate to read to 1st graders and 3rd graders. TIA

Sorry, no answer so I'm bumping since we'd like one too. DH is considering writing and self-publishing one (although he's been saying that for 7 or so years now).

I realize that this is an older thread from 2 weeks ago but I just wanted to mention that although Amazon may not have a large selection of Mardi Gras books, you can call BN in NOLA and tell someone what you are looking for. We were in Metairie last year during Mardi Gras to see family. The BN in Metairie had a very large display of Mardi Gras children's books, several of which touched on the King Cake. I remember one illustrated one in particular that had 3 children in it, 2 siblings sharing their king cake. I also remember liking the Cornell Landry books. I am actually going to buy this one: http://www.amazon.com/One-Dat-Two-Are-You/dp/0615411479/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1359585684&sr=8-6&keywords=who+dat purely because it was fun to read. :) Good luck! My grandfather is from NOLA and we still have a ton of family down there. Sadly, we never celebrated Mardi Gras and the "king cake" tradition was new to me...learned about it from the children's books. :) I hope your DCs love sharing their new tradition!!! How cool!
