So today my email account was hacked and everyone in my contact list got at least two emails from me.....one was apparently empty the other had a link....

I have gotten tons of undeliverable s back but I am also getting emails asking me what is up and why was my email to them etc....it is a bit embarrassing!

This happen a couple months ago and we upped our virus protection and I changed my password...did that again. But this is the main computer in the house mostly used by the kids...I generally use my IPad.

Do generally what is the protocol on this...do I send everyone an email with

"Disregard any strange emails from me today today my account was hacked....sorry,"

Or do you just "ignore" it and hope people realize your account was hacked?

This account is where I send most of my emails from customer service stuff, to teachers (ugh), to friends and even people I don't want to have contact or lost contact with but have their emails.

So hit me with your best advice! Send an email or not? Say what if I do?

Thanks

When my account was hacked, I didn't send an email. It was pretty self explanatory. I just changed my password.

Got both your emails, neither had a link, and immediately realized it was hacked. I think most people will realize, as they're cc'd with lots of people they don't know. [If mine had had a link would've emailed you to let you know, but it looked harmless & I figured plenty of others would've let you know anyway.] I have had this from other people as well and never think badly of them. No advice though sorry.

I don't send an email when that happens (twice now!). I figure a) most will assume hacking and b) why flood inboxes yet again? Of course, when people write with concern or confusion, as in my aunt who thought I'd sent her a Viagra ad, I clarify.

Check you bank accounts frequently. My email was hacked, and somehow the hacker was able to make a purchase from Walmart.com with my debit/credit card. I'm still fighting the bank on that one.

Change your password.

Thank you....I did change my password right away....happened at lunch with DH when he got them and immediately changed it!

But it is really embarrassing because I have gotten like ten emails asking me if I had something to say to them and it didn't go through...4 from people I haven't been in contact with for years! So I am replying to them with an explanation and assuming the others will know what happen!

Sorry hopeful_mama....I owe you a 'real' email!

Mjs64. ...that must have been some email/explanation to your Aunt!:rotflmao:
