My DD1 started at 5 (and 4 mos., turned 5 yr. 5 a week later) She has an early April birthday.

I anticipate that DD2 will start at 5 as well, she has a late April birthday (so she will be just 5 yr. 4 mos.)

DD1's school cut off is 8/31. Our school district (and state) will have a 10/2 cut off this year.

K for us is 2 years as we have Jr K and Sr K.
My kids started JK at;

DS - 3 years 11 months
DD1 - 4 years 8 months
Twins - They will start next year at 4 years 7 months

All 4 started at the appropriate time per the Dec 31st cut-off in our area.

5 years 10 months. Our district has a 9/1 cutoff and DD missed it the previous year by a few months.

DS will be 5 years 4 months. He has an early April birthday.

DD1: 4 years 10 months, on time
DD2: 5 years 1 month, on time

DC3 will hopefully be born before September (late August due date) and will start K right at 5 years. Our district has a 12/1 cut-off, so even if he/she is late that won't be a factor.

5YRS 3 WKS OLD. 9/1 cut off. 8/3 birthday.

We had friends with a birthday in March decide at the last minute to pull their kid out of K. :( Which made me a little sad and left out feeling. But our next door neighbor has a birthday one day off of our sons and SHE is in K too. So that's better!

DD1 started at 5yo. She's an end of July Bday and cut off is 12/1.

DD2 will also start at 5yo. She's a mid-dec Bday and misses the cut off of 12/1 by 2 weeks. I so wish I could send her at 4.5yo. Seriously, she's smart as a whip and would love it. She's only 3yo right now and in preschool. They'll move her to pre-k room next year at 3.5yo (her age at start of next school year). So, she'll end up having 2 years of pre-k.

We HS, but in theory:

DS1 would have started officially if in PS at 5y6m.

DD would have started at 5y9m, and with our cutoff she could not have started earlier. I also have a Dec bday but when I was a kid we were able to start at 4yo. I turned 5 in Dec. of Kindy.

DS2 would be 5y7m if going to public K.

My boys had a cut off of 10/16. They have December bdays so they were 5 years 8 months on time

Cutoff is now 8/31. DD will turn 5 on 7/25 and start on time on 8/26, so 5 years 1 mo.

Ds started late. He was six for his entire kindergarten year because his birthday is in June. (This means he will be 18 for his entire senior year of high school rsther than being 17 for his entire senior year.)

I voted for the cut off where we lived when he would have started if he had started on time--Sept 1.

We moved to CA that year and the cut off here was in Dec when he started. So when we made the decision he was being held back by approximately two months, but in effect he has been held back six months. I doubt we would have held him back with the CA cut off date, but the decision was already made based on the VA cut off date and we did not want him to start K mid-year after the move.

DS1 was 5 years and 4 months with a Dec 1 cut-off
DD was 5 years and 3 months with a Dec 1 cut-off
DS2 will be 5 years and 1.5 months with a Nov 1 cut-off

Michigan is moving their cut-off up and this year it's up to Nov 1.

DS was 5 when he started, & turned 6 about a month later.

DD1 will be 5 by a matter of days when she starts in the fall.

DD2 will be 5, turning 6 a month later, when she starts.

Our cut off is August 31/September 1, but it was October 15 until 1 year before DS started.

DD1 has a November birthday so she started school at 5 and turned 6 two months later. We have a Sept 1st cut-off. Academically, she could have handled starting at 4 and then turning 5 but socially, she really needed that extra year so it worked out great for us.

DD2 has an April birthday. She will be starting at 5. I don't worry about her. She'll be fine.

DD started at age 5 after attending the district pre-K program the year prior.

We moved to a new state last month and here they just changed the cut-off so this year students must be 5 by July 31 to start K (was Oct 15th). Also, any child who turns 6 before the end of the calendar year must start school that fall (prior to turning 6). DS will have to wait another year before starting K under the new guidelines.

DS isn't in school yet, but his birthday is two weeks after the cutoff. It may be possible to push to get him in next year, but I probably won't since he is autistic and very behind socially. DS2 will miss the cutoff by 31 days so they'll both start at 5y 11mo.

Cut-off date is Dec 31st. DS will start K at 5 years 7 months this August, since he's a Jan baby he'll always be among the oldest in his class. When he first started preschool I considered moving him up (skip a year) since he only missed the cutoff by 2 weeks, but I'm OK with him being where he is now.

DD started at age 4, 11/27 b-day, 12/1 cut off
DS1 started at age 5, 10/6 b-day, 12/1 cut off (redshirted)
DS2 will start at age 5, 8/5 b-day, 11/1 cut off (redshirted)

Starting DD early is my biggest parenting regret. She was ready socially and academically, but it has put a lot of pressure on her to "keep up" with older kids and I feel like we've taken a chunk of her childhood from her.

It's a huge financial strain for us to redshirt DS1, who will continue at his private preschool. We could put him in the public pre-K, I suspect he would qualify - but it makes more sense for him to continue in his current program (full day, like K will be, pre-K is half day)

DS1 5 yrs 3 mos Sept 1 cutoff was in Kindergarten here in the States. However, while we were in France he was evaulated (and frankly it was pretty rigourous in France...teachers, psychologists, administrators, several tests etc) for placement in the school system and was put a year ahead.

I HS DD at 4 yrs old in France for American Kindergarten with the assumption she would start "French" Kindergarten normally at 5 years old but have it be all in French. However when evaluated by the French system to decide where she should be placed she was put in what would be 1st Grade here in the States. She had just turned 5 years old 3 weeks prior. The French have a year round calendar so Dec 31 cut off.

DS2 is in the process of being evaluated for Kindergarten in the local French-American School (we are now back in the States). It is expected that he will be accepted and placed in their Kindergarten class this Sept he will 4 yrs 8 months. They have a Dec 31 cut off.

If DS2 turns 5 on 8/5 (am I reading that right?), with a 11/1 cut off, how is that redshirting? Wouldn't you wait until he's 6?

Our district has a 9/1 cutoff.
DD1: 5 years, 4 months.
DS: 5 years, 7 months.
DD2 will be 5 years, 8 months with her December birthday.

All mine were pretty far from the cutoff so I never considered holding back.

DS in a June baby and started at age 5 -- more specifically, 5y2m.

Our cutoff isn't an exact date each year, I don't think. Just 5 by the time school starts. But the kindergarten evaluations mean that some kids are 4 when they start K. If the school feels the child is ready, the child is admitted.

I was 4 when I started K. Our schools had a cutoff of Dec 1 at that time. I have a September birthday so I was nearly 5, but it still seems so young, for some reason.

DS1 - 6 yrs. + 2 weeks (Just where he ended up due to cut-off date but wouldn't have chosen to send him any earlier. Very glad it worked out that way. It has been very beneficial for him.)

DS2 - 5 yrs., 4.5 months (Fortunately he was ready a bit earlier than his brother and is doing well.)

Our cutoff is Aug 1. My oldest is a November baby so he was 5y9m when he was in K. My middle is in K now, he was 5y1m at the beginning of the year. If he stays an extra year in K (due to a recent diagnosis of ADHD and Expressive Language Disorder) he'll be 6y1m when school starts again in the fall. We still haven't decided. We're still meeting with all the doctors/therapists and gathering up a plan for him. My youngest is a Feb baby so he'll be 5y6m.

DS1- Feb bday, so he started in squarely at age 5.

DS2- Late Aug bday, cut off for our district is Aug 1st, so he started K as a new 6 yr old.

DS3- Very tail end of July is his bday, but our district cut off is Aug 1st. Most likely I will just hold him. However, if his preschool teacher assesses that he is ready for K, we will enroll him in K as brand new 5 yr old. I'm not really keen about it though, b/c red-shirting is very prominent in our state, and DS3 is on the more immature side emotionally (melts down easily), so I personally think we will hold him. He is less than a wk from the cut off day, so I don't feel too badly about it.
