I trust your opinions and would like to get some feedback about baby gates. I purchased two 'Summer Infant' walk through baby gates and installed them. They were self closing. They worked perfectly for about two weeks when both of them broke. I took them down and took them back to Toys R Us.
I REALLY need to get two gates that swing open completely and STAY open. It is only on occasion that we will need these gates closed and they will be open most of the time. I need the baby gates to completely swing open and stay open until we want it closed. I think I am going to opt. for the wooden ones this time too instead of the metal ones.
I find these all over the internet but none of them state that they will stay open until closed.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback you have to give and will look forward to hearing from you ladies!!

I have not looked in years, so no idea what brand ours are. They are wooden slat ones that we bought at Babies R Us.

They are wall mounted, so there were drop in hinges on one side and a metal bracket the gate closed into on the other side. They stayed open when we had them up.

I liked them because we could easily slide them out of the hardware to "uninstall" them when we did not need them. We've been in this house since before kids. We bought the gates almost 9 years ago, so through three kids they have been up and down a lot. Now the gates down in storage, but the hardware is still on the walls and not that noticeable. I've been able to bring the gates back up when babies visit.

The First Years Hands Free Gate stays open - http://www.walmart.com/ip/2629948?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227001129301&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=13682267710&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem . Mine has been in use since my almost 5 yo was a tot and I've been quite happy with it.

In another area that was too wide for that gate, I use one that does swing closed automatically but I just keep it open with a bungee cord when I don't want it to shut.

We have three of these. http://www.target.com/p/evenflo-top-of-stair-extra-tall-wood-gate/-/A-13979814?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C13979814&CPNG=Baby&kpid=13979814&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=13979814http://http://www.target.com/p/evenflo-top-of-stair-extra-tall-wood-gate/-/A-13979814?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C13979814&CPNG=Baby&kpid=13979814&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=13979814. You can remove them from the wall when not in use. They have been up for 5 yrs.

Thank you! I have checked them out. JGenie, does that wooden one from Target stay open on its own?

If you fully open it, it stays open. We close the gate to upstairs when we go to bed at night and open it when we come downstairs in the morning and it stays open all day. If my DC are playing with it too much on any given day I can just slip it off the wall and put it away for the day.
