I need to provide healthy nut-free snacks for DS' fourth-grade class this week designed to help with concentration and alertness while taking the state standardized tests. I realize that fruits and veggies are generally considered healthy snacks, but what should I be concerned with to help with concentration and alertness? Is protein (like cheese sticks) most important? Are carbs like crackers good or bad? Recommendations appreciated!

I'd probably do cheese and crackers. I'd want something I'd be confident they'd eat bc hunger is a big problem.

i think cheese, crackers plus a fruit would be good. apple slices or orange slices or even bananas, just cut in half.

My son came home raving about the hummus and carrot sticks that
he ate during testing.

Also, my son's teacher requested donations of peppermint gum for
the kids to chew on while testing.

Not sure about snacks, but yes, our school specifically request mints for them to suck on during the test.

Our schools give the kids gum, for alertness. Peppermint would make the most sense. :-)

Our school gives the kids mints to suck on. They also offer a fundraiser of peppermint Smencils.

Our school always allowed students to chew gum.
