Ds1 has fine motor delays. We are trying to encourage him to use little Legos to build with. Many of the sets are complicated (yes, for me). Are there easier ones?

The first ones that DS1 did were the Creator 3-in-1 sets like this one:

http://creator.lego.com/en-us/Products/Default.aspx#5864

Target usually has 2-3 sets like this and they are around $5-7.

The next step up would be something like this one:

http://creator.lego.com/en-us/Products/7347.aspx#31002

or

http://creator.lego.com/en-us/Products/7347.aspx#6912

Basically, look for something under 100 pcs for the first ones, then move up to something 100-200 pcs. Ignore the age ratings as those are just the suggested interest level.

These are simpler sets that we started with DS. You can find them on Lego.com under "bricks & more"
http://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Monster-Trucks-10655
http://shop.lego.com/en-US/My-First-LEGO-Fire-Station-10661
http://shop.lego.com/en-US/My-First-LEGO-Set-10657

After these DS moved to the city sets which I think are easier than some others.

The sets have age recommendations, we find that the ones rated 4 and up are simpler than others (6 and up, 8 and up, etc), and on fact the blocks are slighlty bigger in some of those sets.

Do you have a set of bricks he can just free build with (w/o instructions)? This is how both of mine started and perhaps it would free him up to explore and build more if he wasn't tied to how something was supposed to look. My guys LOVE to build spaceships/lasers/etc.

DS will build the sets maybe once and then use the bricks from the sets to build whatever he wants: robots, really tall buildings, lasers, etc.

Sometimes I give the girls "lego quests". Here is a list of possible quests (http://legoquestkids.blogspot.ca/2012/10/final-challenge-quest-52.html). The girls really enjoy it. They will come up and ask me for a quest.

Thanks everyone. The Easter Bunny has some ideas.
