I cooked some soup last night- "taco" soup w/ chicken. Came into the kitchen this morning to realize that we got busy after dinner and it just sat (uncovered) on the stove in the pot all night (not cooking). DH thinks we need to toss it... any chance it would be ok? I just hate to throw out that much soup!

I hate to say it, but I would toss.

I'm almost always a keep, but I think I'm a toss here.

that's defnitely a toss...either toss it now or eat it and toss it later, KWIM?

I posted the exact same question once.

FWIW, I reboiled it and we ate it and survived.:) And here's what Harold McGee says about soup left out overnight:

Heh, and I said keep it. Honestly, I wasn't out to get you! I think what tipped me to the toss side of things this time was that it was uncovered...it just seems like there's more chance of contamination.

Throw it out! It has been in the danger zone waaay too long.

If it were 6 or fewer hours, I'd keep and boil. But, more than that, toss.

How hot is your house? If it's under 70 at night, I'd just reboil & eat soon. If it's higher, I'd probably toss . . .
